It focuses on a unique human communication phenomenon- a community with a communication and cultural system that is not based on a spoken language. The relationship between communication and culture is examined through analysis of the different aspects of the Deaf culture and community, including language, history, the arts, norms, values, traditions and customs of the Deaf community and its interaction with a hearing-dominant society.
