NCC will review a student’s academic progress once a year. The evaluation period will be after the Spring semester ends.

  • Qualitative and Quantitative measure will be calculated based on the program student is actively enrolled in.
  • Students will be notified via their NCC email account that they are not meeting the federal requirements of academic progress and will not be eligible for federal aid for the next academic semester at NCC. They will also be given the opportunity to appeal. Appeals must be received by the Financial Aid office no later than August 1 for the upcoming academic year.
  • Those students that have their appeals approved will receive federal aid for the fall semester. At the end of the fall semester their progress will be reviewed and determined if eligible to continue receiving federal aid for the rest of the aid period.

Dismissal from College:

  • If student is academically dismissed from College, no aid or registration will be generated. The Financial Aid office would cancel all awards &/or requirements for that aid period.
  • If student is reinstated after being academically dismissed, only an appeal approval would reinstate federal aid. Appeal must be completely processed prior to the start of the semester the College has reinstated student in, otherwise student not eligible for federal aid until next SAP evaluation.

Changing majors

  • College policy is that no major change is permitted after the drop/add period of the semester.
  • Students that have not completed a program and choose to declare a new major will only be allowed to do so twice.
  • Students that have previously graduated and are starting a new program are not considered to have “changed their major”.

Appealing

  • The appeal for federal satisfactory academic progress can be printed from our financial aid forms page; http://www.ncc.edu/admissions/financialaid/financial_aid_forms.shtml or obtained in the Financial Aid office.
  • The completed form and supporting documentation must be submitted to the financial Aid office no later than August 1, prior to the start of the new aid period.
  • No more than 2 approved appeals for a student’s tenure at NCC, regardless of program change or starting a new program.
  • Only one medical reason will be allowed and only one miscellaneous extenuating circumstance. This does not mean that a total of 2 appeals are allowed.
  • A student requesting a second appeal that is not a medical reason, nor was the first appeal medical, is not “entitle” to two appeals.
  • Student skips semester following an evaluation period:
  • Appeals must be handed in by August 1, otherwise student not eligible for federal aid until next SAP evaluation.

Programs less than 1 year:

SAP evaluation will run after each payment period.

To continue to receive financial aid, students must maintain the standards of satisfactory progress. See following chart.
